Through meditative, repetitive movements, Nathalie Doyen creates organic forms with intricate and mesmerizing surfaces. The patterns that develop are slowly and meticulously formed by texturing the surface of the clay with a needle over several hours. The tranquil and hypnotic nature of the process is paramount, resulting in sculptures that feel organic yet disciplined. 

Each form is enveloped with small pieces of colored clay that she tints with oxides and pigments. The color palettes of her forms can take several days of planning as she reflects on the varied hues in her environment. The combination of colors and textures results in a surface that appear as though they’ve been embroidered. The artist's clear appreciation for minute detail draws the viewer into a world where one can become completely lost in time, lost in process, and lost in observation.
