With 'Waveform' Bench, Kurtz both references and deconstructs early American furniture making techniques and norms. This results in an entirely contemporary aesthetic that is rooted in historical precedence.
Kurtz's rigorous examination happens most evidently with the edge profile of the bench, normally a subtle finishing detail on a piece of furniture. In 'Waveform', the edge profile is amplified and transformed into a dramatic sculptural gesture.
This piece is finished in cornflower blue milk paint, a beautiful nod to an early American finish used on Windsor chairs.
