Studio Tashtego is pleased to announce Elizabeth Blake’s forthcoming solo exhibition of ceramics, Arcadia

In these turbulent and unpredictable times, rife with division, Elizabeth Blake offers an alternative in clay. Longing for a shared vision of happiness and abundance, she constructs an idyllic world where humanity reveres and finds harmony with nature. She imagines a place of quietude and innocence, both as a psychological refuge from the stresses of modern life and as a way of visualizing the future.

Central to this visualization is humanity's inherent reliance on nature. Elizabeth carries on an ancient tradition within art and design of representing the natural world as both structural and ornamental. Like the acanthus leaves atop a Corinthian column acting as both decorative motif and a supporting component for a building, Elizabeth's functional works marry structure and decoration seamlessly. Mirrors, lamps, tables, and vessels all seem to spontaneously "emerge" from a wild tangle of leaves and flowers. Her Arcadia series is a simply beautiful ode to nature where humans find peace and contentment, and a thought-provoking statement on the intertwined destinies of humanity and the natural world.
