Olivia Cognet
Olivia Cognet's ceramic work is inspired by architecture, specifically the play of light and shadow created through angles and extrusions. She describes her aesthetic as a "sensual mix of modern brutalism and absolute femininity." Her oeuvre spans vessels, lamps, and other design pieces to bespoke large-scale bas reliefs that are mounted to the wall.
The work is highly abstract and each piece is thoroughly considered as a three dimensional object. Olivia always starts with a sketch, which reveals a deep understanding of how shadow will play a key role in the overall composition. The clay is a local stoneware often in natural shades, which is striated to give texture and pattern. Angles, curves and voids are all a part of Olivia's design vocabulary and merge to create singular objects that are thoroughly contemporary.
